ODU Grabs 9th at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- The ODU men's golf team finished in a three-way tie for ninth place at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California. Seth Sweet finished in a tie for 26th place out of 116 golfers, the highest of any Monarch for the third consecutive tournament.

Kansas, ranked 46th, earned the team title, while Colorado moved into second place and No. 36 Texas Tech slid into third. TCU and Cal Poly rounded out the top five, respectively, while ODU finished in a three-way tie for ninth with UT Arlington and Gonzaga.

Representing Gonzaga, No. 36 Sean Walsh won the individual crown after shooting 68-71-70=209. The Monarchs' senior Seth Sweet shot 76-73-73=222, which was good for a 26th place tie. Freshman Calvin Greschner took 39th for ODU, shooting 72-78-74=224, and senior Ashton Newsom finished in 45th after firing 70-79-76=225.

Seth Sweet finished in a first place tie for lowest par five average (4.42) with the tournament runner-up, Chelso Barrett of TCU. Calvin Greschner capped off the event in a second place tie for most pars with 40.

The Monarchs are backin action March 11 at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
