NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University women’s soccer head coach Angie Hind has announced the teams 2016 spring schedule, which consists of five matches between March 4 and April 23. Four of the five games will be played against an in-state foe, and one contest will be held at the ODU Soccer Complex.
“We believe the spring season is such an important part of our annual program,” explained Hind. “We have the opportunity to practice together a lot through the week and prepare our focus for each weekend game. It’s also a great time to develop key areas for our players individually and tactically to lay down the foundations for our style of play and also consider which players may be able to play in various positions. It is an exciting few months as we also can take on the challenge of playing different opposition than we do in the fall and we therefore look forward to testing ourselves against some strong opponents.”
The Lady Monarchs faced two of their upcoming spring opponents in the 2015 regular season, ECU (1-1 draw) and VCU (2-4 loss).
Old Dominion will play its first spring game on Friday, March 4, at VMI at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Monarchs will stay on the road to square off with Richmond on Saturday, March 19, at 1:00 p.m.
ODU will return home for their lone home match against ECU on Saturday, April 2 at 1:00. Old Dominion battled the Pirates to a double-overtime draw during the 2015 regular season.
The Lady Monarchs will hit the road for their final two games of the spring season, when they face Longwood on Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. Old Dominion will wrap up the spring season at in-state rival VCU on Saturday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m.
“Given the new leadership within the squad that also brings a freshness and an opportunity for us to continue to grow as a team and develop our identity and playing style further,” concluded Hind. “I’m very excited to see how we step up to the challenge that this spring season will bring.”
The women’s soccer program will also hold their annual Alumni Game/Brunch on Saturday, April 16 at the ODU Soccer Complex.
