NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s soccer head coach Angie Hind announced Grace Haverly, Kathryn Hill and Jackie Stroud as captains for the upcoming 2016 season.
“As a team we made a big step last season and as we already begin to prepare for 2016, the potential for our future will be greatly enhanced by the strong leadership we feel these three athletes will bring,” Hind noted. “Whilst each have their own strengths, personality, and presence, collectively they share similar values, and are committed to bringing future success to ODU women’s soccer.”
Haverly, a senior out of Virginia Beach, will be a second year captain for the team while playing in every game this past season for the Monarchs. She was recently named the winner of the C-USA Fall Spirit of Service Award. This past season Haverly was named to the Conference USA All Tournament Team and over the course of her career has made Dean’s List five times as a civil engineering major.
Hill, a senior from North Ayrshire Scotland, has made an immediate impact on the program in her first season as a Monarch. A season ago, she accomplished All-Conference USA Third Team and All-Academic First Team honors. As a biology major, Hill has been a Dean’s List recipient every semester while enrolled at Old Dominion.
Redshirt junior, Stroud, has played in every game in her career before having to sit out the 2015 season due to injury. “We unfortunately lost Jackie due to injury and whilst obviously disappointing at the time this is an experience that we feel will bring a real positive outcome for this program,” added Hind. “She is a natural leader and has high expectations for herself and her teammates, and is someone who does a lot for this program off the field.”
The Lady Monarchs will be in action for their spring season opener on Friday, March 4 at VMI at 7:30 p.m.
