Old Dominion University student athletes excelled again in the classroom during the Fall 2015 semester, as 157 earned Dean’s List honors with a 3.4 grade point average or higher, and 12 teams posted a combined GPA of a 3.0 or higher.
The Dean’s List performers represent 32 percent of ODU’s 494 Fall 2015 student athletes. Twenty-one student athletes earned perfect 4.0 GPA’s, while 280 earned a 3.0 or higher.
Additionally, 12 of ODU’s 18 teams earned combined GPA’s of a 3.0 or higher, led by Women’s Golf (3.46), Women’s Soccer (3.32), Men’s Soccer (3.30), Men’s Tennis (3.28), Women’s Tennis (3.23), Lacrosse (3.22), Field Hockey (3.21), Baseball (3.26), Women’s sailing (3.09), Wrestling (3.05) and Men’s Swimming (3.02).
“With so many time demands, earning a 3.4 GPA or higher is a great accomplishment for any student-athlete, and our collective fall performances were outstanding," says Randale Richmond, senior associate athletic director for Academics and Compliance. "This success is a credit to them, our faculty, our academic advisors, as well as our coaches, administration, and support staff. Their level of success requires a concerted effort, from top-down, and it’s an honor to work with such a large group of individuals dedicated to student-athlete success.”
Four student athletes from fall sports were also recognized as Academic All American, including Tyler Compton (Football) CoSIDA Academic All-District Team & C-USA All-Academic Team; Kathryn Hill (Women’s Soccer) C-USA All-Academic First Team; Ryan Condotta (Men’s Soccer) C-USA All-Academic First Team and Ivan Militar (Men’s Soccer) C-USA All-Academic First Team. The Dean’s List recipients were recognized at halftime of the men’s basketball game on Jan. 21 vs. Western Kentucky.
