NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women’s basketball team added James Madison University transfer Carley Brew to its roster, as announced by head coach Karen Barefoot on Friday afternoon.

“I am extremely excited to welcome Carley to our Lady Monarch family,” said Barefoot. “She has a passion for the game and tremendous energy, making her a great fit for this program. She is an outstanding leader and brings a championship experience with her after playing for great high school and AAU program. Her tenacity on defense and her ability to rebound matches the values of this program and we are excited to see her grow as a player with us.”

Brew, a 6-foot forward from Wyomissing, Pa. who attended high school at Wilson, was a McDonald’s All-American nominee as a senior. In addition, she was named to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State PIAA 4A team and was a Sporting News Magazine National High School Honorable Mention All-American in 2014. Earning PIAA District 3 4A First Team honors, Brew led Wilson to a Berks Conference championship and PIAA District 3 championship as a senior. She finished her high school career with 1,277 points and was selected as a Berks County All-Star team member at the conclusion of her senior campaign. Outside of high school, Brew was a guard/small forward for the Philadelphia Belles and was a member of the Nike National Team.

At James Madison, Brew made an appearance in 16 games as a freshman, averaging 4.1 minutes per outing. She played a career-high 17 minutes against Houston last season and pulled down a career-high three rebounds.

Brew will sit out the rest of the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer rules and will be eligible to compete in December during the 2016-17 season.
