ODU Women's Hoops Travels to UAB and Middle Tennessee This Week

NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion women’s basketball returns to action this week with two Conference USA matchups on the road. The Lady Monarchs will face UAB on Jan. 14 at 8 p.m., while facing Middle Tennessee on Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. (all times Eastern).

Thursday’s contest will be streamed live through Blazer Vision on uabsports.com and through the C-USA Digital Network. Doug Ripley will also be providing a live analysis of the game on STAR 1310 AM. Live stats will also be available.

Saturday will be streamed though GoBlueRaiders.com and the C-USA Digital Network, with Ripley once again on the call on ESPN 94.1 FM. Live stats will also be available.

ABOUT ODU

The Lady Monarchs enter the week with a 6-9 overall record and a 2-1 mark in Conference USA. Only UTEP (4-0) and WKU (3-0) are ranked ahead of Old Dominion in the conference standings. Last week, ODU fell to LA Tech (51-69) on Thursday, but bounced back to defeat Southern Miss (53-45) on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Jennie Simms averaged 23.0 points and 6.5 rebounds over the two games, while junior center Ije Ajemba recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds against USM.

For the season, the Lady Monarchs average 58.0 points (-5.2 margin) and 36.8 rebounds per contest (-3.8 margin). After playing three Conference USA games, Old Dominion is in the top-five in nine different statistical categories, including first in the league in scoring defense (57.7) and rebounding offense (43.7).

Simms leads all scorers on the team and in Conference USA with 19.2 points, while also pulling in 6.4 rebounds and dishing out 3.0 helpers a game. Destinee Young is the only other Lady Monarch in double-figures, as she averages 10.2 points and a team-leading 7.8 rebounds per game.

ABOUT UAB
The UAB Blazers currently hold a 7-7 overall record and a 0-3 conference mark after falling to the C-USA leader UTEP by a 54-62 margin. UAB held a 42-36 lead heading into the final stretch, but the 11-3 run paired with a four-minute scoring drought for the Blazers allowed the Miners to take a 47-45 lead with 7:18 to go, which it would cling onto for the remainder of the contest. Chelsee Black led the Blazers pouring in 16 points in thanks to a 4-of-8 showing from long range.

Black leads the team with 13.7 points and dishes out 2.8 points per game. Deanna Kuzmanic is second on the team with 12.1 points, while Brittanny Winborne adds 8.8 points and a team-leading 9.7 rebounds per contest. As a team, UAB averages 62.2 points (+6.6 margin) and 41.7 rebounds a game (+8.4 margin).

ABOUT MIDDLE TENNESSEE
The Blue Raiders improved to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in C-USA with a 74-63 road victory over UTSA on Saturday afternoon. Ty Petty led the way with 20 points and six assists with just one turnover, while freshman Alex Johnson finished with 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting. After suffering an injury in the second quarter that kept her out for most of the game, Brea Edwards finished with 14 points and four rebounds. The Blue went 18-for-22 from the free-throw line, including knocking down six-for-six in the final 1:01 to seal the win.

Edwards leads the team with 19.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, while Petty adds 10.1 points and 4.6 assists per contest. As a team, Middle Tennessee scores 67.7 points (+5.0 margin) and pulls in 40.8 rebounds (+5.3 margin) a game.
