WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs faltered on the road against William & Mary by a 75-64 margin and fell to 4-8 on the season before heading into conference play on Sunday.
Jennie Simms led the way for ODU with a game-high 35 points and was the only Lady Monarch in double-figures. She also added nine rebounds, two assists, three blocks and three steals to her stat line. Annika Holopainen was closest to reaching double-figures, finishing with seven points and three rebounds. In her first game back since Nov. 27, Ije Ajemba added six points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Monarchs started the game with a fast pace and built a nine-point lead (23-14) after the first ten minutes of play. Simms paced ODU with 12 points and four rebounds in just 10 minutes of action. Old Dominion continued to build on its lead and took a 14-point advantage by the 4:49 mark of the second quarter. The Tribe quickly responded with their first substantial run (9-0) of the contest and held the Lady Monarchs scoreless over the final 4:39 to pull within five points at the intermission (32-27).
Simms was the only Lady Monarch to reach double-figures in the first half, as she recorded 16 points and added five rebounds and three steals. As a team, ODU shot 40.6 percent from the floor (13-32) and 30.8 percent from behind the arc (4-13).
William & Mary continued to stifle the Old Dominion offense and held the Lady Monarchs to just one point over the first 3:28 of the third period and took its first lead of the contest at the 8:25 mark (34-33). The Tribe continued to attack on offense and held a 10-point advantage going into the final period.
Despite Simms netting 17 points and the Lady Monarchs shooting 50 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter, the William & Mary Tribe continued to control the contest and increased its lead to as many as 13 points and finished with the 11-point advantage (75-64).
For the game, ODU shot 38.5 percent from the field (25-65), 30.0 percent from behind the arc (6-20) and 40.0 percent from the foul line (8-20). The Tribe out-rebounded ODU 53-34 and dished out 20 assists, the most of any ODU opponent this season.
Marlena Tremba led W&M with 20 points and five assists, while Alexandra Masaquel and Abby Rendle each added 16 points of their own. Masaquel also pulled in nine boards, while Rendle had six rebounds and a game-high four blocks.

ODU is back in action on January 3rd at Charlotte for its first Conference USA contest of the season. The two teams will square off in Halton Arena the at 1:00 p.m.
