NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team (5-6) will look to its 30th consecutive game at home on Tuesday, Dec. 22 against Rhode Island of the Atlantic 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The game will be televised on the American Sports Network with Jeff McCarragher handling play-by-play and Mark Adams taking care of the color duties. ODU's 29 consecutive home wins is currently tied with North Dakota State for the nation's fourth longest active winning streak for NCAA Division I men's basketball.

After ending the 2014-15 season a perfect 20-0 at home, the Monarchs are now 5-0 at the Ted for the 2015-16 season. Old Dominion is 0-6 (0-4 away and 0-2 neutral) when they are not playing inside the Ted this season.

THE SERIES VERSUS RHODE ISLAND
These two schools have only met a total of four times prior to Tuesday night’s showdown. Each team has won two games in the all-time series, with Rhode Island winning the first two meetings and ODU taking care of business in the past two contests. The last time the Rams and the Monarchs met was during the 1982-83 season in Norfolk, where Old Dominion defeated URI, 99-81. The first time Rhode Island and Old Dominion faced off was during the 1979-80 season, when the Rams won at home, 77-63.

LAST TIME OUT
Old Dominion extended its home win streak to 29 straight with a 77-47 victory over UMES (1-10) on Friday night at the Ted.

Old Dominion held a lead for 35:36 of the possible 40 minutes. Trey Freeman led four ODU players in double-digits with 21 points to compliment seven assists. Aaron Bacote followed, pouring in 18 points to go along with five assists. Brandan Stith filled the stat sheet with 14 points, a game-high eight rebounds and a game-high five blocks.  Zoran Talley also added 14 points, while hauling down five boards.

The Monarchs assisted on 21 of their 29 made field-goals. ODU shot 62.5% (15-24) from the floor in the second half and 55.8% (29-52) for the ballgame. Old Dominion held a 47-9 advantage for points in the paint and a 25-5 advantage for fast-break points. The Monarchs forced a total of 18 UMES turnovers. For the contest, UMES shot 26.9% (14-52) from the floor.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
For the season, Trey Freeman is leading the way for the Monarchs averaging 15.6 ppg and 3.9 rpg. Aaron Bacote is averaging 13.4 points a contest, while Brandan Stith is averaging 9.6 points and 6.8 rebounds. Zoran Talley is netting 9.4 ppg, while Nik Biberaj is chipping in 6.2 points per outing to go along with 4.5 boards. Denzell Taylor currently leads ODU with 73 rebounds (6.6 per game).

Old Dominion is averaging 65.9 points a game, while holding opponents to 58.5 points on 38.2% shooting from the floor and 29.1% from long-range. The Monarchs average 11.8 forced turnovers per contest.

MEET RHODE ISLAND
This preseason, Rhode Island was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10, only behind Dayton.

URI has five different players averaging double-figures entering Tuesday’s contest: Hassan Martin (12.6 ppg and 5.9 rpg), Kuran Iverson (11.5 ppg and 6.3 rpg), Jared Terrell (11.2 ppg and 4.4 rpg), Jarvis Garrett (11.1 ppg and 4.5 rpg) and Four McGlynn (10.9 ppg and 2.3 rpg).

Coming off a 23-win season and a return to the post season, head coach Dan Hurley was named the 2014-15 United States Basketball Writers Association District I Coach of the Year. Last season in the Atlantic 10, the Rams finished in a tie for second place, advancing to the conference semifinals. URI earned a No. 3 seed in the 2015 National Invitation Tournament, downing Iona in the opening round before falling at eventual NIT champion Stanford.
