NORFOLK, Va. -- The No. 11-ranked Old Dominion wrestling team lost to No. 14 North Carolina, 19-18, on Sunday evening at the Ted Constant Center before a crowd of 594. North Carolina improved to 6-1 as a team while the Monarchs fell to 2-2 on the season.

Starting at 125, North Carolina redshirt freshman Tyrone Klump used an escape, third period takedown, riding time point and a last-second stall call to defeat ODU's Brandon Jeske, 5-0.

Emilio Saavedra swung the momentum back in the Monarchs' favor with a first period fall over Anthony Bosco, and Chris Mecate received a forfeit at 141 to extend ODU's team score lead to 12-3.

Alexander Richardson earned a 9-5 decision over Joey Moon at 149 on the strength of two takedowns, a two-point nearfall and a second period reversal to increase ODU's lead to 15-3.

The Tar Heels' Robert Henderson picked up a 3-0 decision over Old Dominion's Devin Geoghegan at 157. After a scoreless first period, Henderson rode out the second period and earned a reversal in the third period to win, 3-0.

North Carolina's returning All-American Ethan Ramos edged ODU true freshman Seldon Wright by a 5-2 score at 165. Each wrestler earned a takedown, but it was Ramos' two escapes and riding time point that carried the redshirt sophomore to the victory.

Trailing 15-9 as a team, North Carolina fifth-year senior John Michael Staudenmayer decisioned Brooks Climmons, 3-0, at 174. Staudenmayer earned an escape and a third period takedown to narrow the Monarch team lead to 15-12 heading into 184.

At 184, No. 2 Jack Dechow and No. 19 Alex Utley headed to overtime after trading escapes, but it was Dechow who clinched the win after Utley was called for stalling for the second time in the sudden victory period.

With the Monarchs leading 18-12 after 184, North Carolina's Chip Ness recorded three takedowns en route to a 7-3 victory over Austin Coburn to bring the team score to 18-15 in favor of ODU.

With the dual meet on the line, the Tar Heels' Cory Daniel used three third period takedowns and a stalling point to earn an 11-3 major decision in the waning seconds to seal the dual meet victory for North Carolina, 19-18, over Old Dominion.
