WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Old Dominion’s Adam Moundir, Theophile Lanthiez and Jose Nunez Navarro all picked up singles wins in day two of the 2015 Wake Forest Invite in Winston-Salem, N.C., while Adam Moundir and Michael Weindl teamed up to make the Doubles finals of their respective bracket.
In the Semifinals of the A3 Doubles Draw, Old Dominion’s No. 1 seeded Moundir and Weindl claimed an 8-5 victory against Tennessee’s Tech’s Esteban/Mena tandem, setting up a Finals showdown against Wake Forest’s Bloom/Tabrizi.
In the Consolation Semifinals of the A2 Singles Draw, ODU’s No. 1 seeded Adam Moundir took down Dartmouth’s Roko Glasnovic in straight sets (6-3, 7-6(8)). The win places Moundir in the Consolation Finals against Wofford’s Garis Poric.
After dropping his first two matches in the B1 Singles Draw on day one, Old Dominion’s Theophile Lanthiez fought back and won his first match in the 13th place bracket against Penn’s Austin Kaplan in a three-setter 7-6(3), 3-6, 10-7. Lanthiez will compete for 13th place on Sunday.
In the Consolation Semifinals of the C1 Draw, Jose Nunez Navarro defeated Norfolk State’s Flavian Fernandez (6-2, 6-2). Nunez Navarro later won the Consolation Finals by injury default.
TOUGH COMPETITION
The 18 teams that will be competing in Winston-Salem this weekend: Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Indiana, NC State, Liberty, Tennessee Tech, East Carolina, UNCG, Navy, Dartmouth, Penn, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Norfolk State and Old Dominion.
The Wake Forest Invite will be the last invitational of the fall season for the Monarchs as a team, but Moundir and Kijametovic will travel to Flushing, N.Y. next week to compete in the National Indoor Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to be held on Nov. 12-15.
