ODUSports.com takes a look back at Old Dominion's victory at UTSA.

  • David Washington passed for a career-high 378 yards and two touchdowns. His 48 attempts were the 10th most in a game in school history. He also rushed for 69 yards, the most by an ODU quarterback since Taylor Heinicke rushed for 75 yards against Georgia Southern in the 2011 FCS playoffs.
  • Wide receivers Zach Pascal and Jonathan Duhart each had 100 yards receiving, as Duhart registered career-bests with eight receptions and 160 yards. Pascal's 10 catches is tied for seventh most in a game in ODU history.
  • Running back Ray Lawry carried 23 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns. It was the sixth time this season he has gone over 100 yards and 11th time in his career. He is the first player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season and set the school record for carries in a season with 185.
  • Senior linebacker Martez Simpson had his best game of the season with 11 tackles, tying his career-high, and a sack. TJ Ricks also had 10 tackles and half a sack while Sean Carter recorded a career-best with nine tackles and a fumble recovery.

BIG MOMENTS
Several big plays were made throughout the game, but below is a few that stood out.

Following Chris Kirtley's third field goal of the first half, Kirtley's kickoff drilled a front lineman of the UTSA kickoff return team and was recovered by ODU special teamer Kesean Strong. The Monarchs went on to score on an eight yard touchdown pass from Washington to Duhart to take a 16-14 halftime lead.

ODU took the opening kickoff and drove to the UTSA 13 but David Washington was rushed from the pocket and threw an interception. However, the defense came up big with a three and out and on the next ODU possession Ray Lawry capped a drive with a three yard touchdown run to put ODU up 23-14.

After UTSA took a 31-30 lead, Washington led ODU down the field quickly with completions of 14 yards to Duhart, 11 and 10 to Pascal, and then the 40-yard game-winner to Duhart.

Then the defense stepped up, twice. UTSA had two cracks from the ODU 6 with three minutes to play and stopped QB Dalton Sturm short on 4th and 3, and then with 4th and 1 from the 13, forced Sturm into an incomplete pass to clinch the victory.
