WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Michael Weindl, Adam Moundir and Jose Nunez Navarro all picked up key wins for the Old Dominion men’s tennis team at the 2015 Wake Forest Invite on day one of three, as mother-nature caused major delays in Winston Salem on Friday.

Michael Weindl took down Georgia State’s Rise Lanne in the opening round of the A1 Singles Draw 6-4, 6-3. With the victory, Weindl moved onto the Quarterfinals against the No. 2 seed from Liberty Henrik Matheson. Weindl took the first set 6-2; however, it was Matheson who won sets two (6-4) and three (6-2). Weindl will look to bounce back for fifth place in days two and three.

In the A2 Singles Draw, Old Dominion’s Adam Moundir drew the No. 1 seed, Alex Ritschard of Virginia. Despite a valiant effort from Moundir, it was Ritschard who narrowly pulled out the first set 7-6(3), before claiming the second set 6-2. Ritschard entered the latest ITA Rankings at No. 115. Moundir proved his resilience in the consolation bracket, winning a three setter over Duke’s Adrian Chamdani (6-2, 5-7, 6-1). Moundir will take on Roko Glasnovic of Dartmouth tomorrow for a chance to play in the Consolation Finals.

After dropping his first match in the C1 Singles Draw Jose Nunez Navarro to Radford’s Sam Taylor, Nunez Navarro reeled off a big win, setting up a Consolation Semifinal match against Norfolk State’s Flavian Fernandez on Saturday.

In doubles, ODU’s tandem of Adam Moundir and Michael Weindl received a No. 1 seed and a first round bye, therefore will play their first match on Saturday.
