NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion men’s golf head coach Murray Rudisill announced the signing of Casper Aneman from Stockholm, Sweden to a National Letter of Intent last week. Aneman is the first signee for the Monarchs this fall and will join the squad for the 2016-17 season.

“Casper’s golfing credentials looked really good on paper, but the thing that most impressed me was his commitment to make a trip to Old Dominion,” Rudisill commented. “He made a special effort to come down to the last round of our tournaments at Kilmarlic Golf Course to meet our guys and watch us play. He seemed to get along well with all of my players, and I think he will be able to jump into the starting line-up as a freshman next fall.  Casper will be the first Scandanavian golfer that has ever played for Old Dominion. We are very excited about signing him.”

A member of Stockholm’s Golf Club, one of the oldest clubs in all of Sweden, Aneman has played on the Skandia Tour Elite and on the Junior Masters Invitational Tour. He also represented Stockholm’s Golf Club in the Junior Swedish Championships in the finals in Portugal last year. After firing a 70-70=140 (-4), Aneman was the champion at the Huvudstaden Junior Open on the Junior Masters Invitational Tour.

Competing for Osterakers High School, he captured a county championship and registered a fourth place finish with the school at the Swedish Championship. In 2015, he was honored by Stockholm’s Golf Club with the “Best Performance of the Year” award.

Aneman has also excelled in the classroom, maintaining a 3.8 GPA and multiple academic awards to go along with his diploma.

“I am very excited and happy to be a Monarch at ODU,” Aneman said. “I got a very good impression of the team and Coach Rudisill when I got to visit and watch them play at the ODU/OBX Invitational.”

In the fall of 2015 under Rudisill’s leadership, the Monarchs claimed a third place finish at the ODU/OBX Invite which included David Langley setting a school record by firing a 63 in the first round. ODU also took third at the Firestone Invite which led Monarch freshman Calvin Greschner to a C-USA Men’s Golfer of the Week honor after a 12th place finish. Old Dominion turned in a fourth place finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge as well.

The ODU men’s golfers will kick-off the spring season on Sunday, Feb. 7 at The Farms Collegiate Invitational in San Diego, California.
