FLUSHING, N.Y. – ODU’s Atlantic regional doubles champions Adam Moundir and Aziz Kijametovic fell 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 16 to Jordan Cox and Kevin Konfederak of NAIA powerhouse Georgia Gwinnett at the 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. on Thursday. Moundir and Kijametovic will look to bounce back in the consolation bracket starting on Friday.
As the only tournament on the ITA calendar to showcase elite players from every level of college tennis, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.
Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are champions from the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country in October, winners of the USTA/ITA National Small College Super Bowl, and the consolation champions, doubles finalists, men's singles quarterfinalists and women's singles semifinalists from the ITA Men’s and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.
Moundir and Kijametovic punched their tickets to the championship event after capturing the crown at the regional championships at Virginia Tech in October. Entering as the No. 6 seed, the Monarch duo stormed into the finals where they defeated the pair of Virginia Tech’s No. 5 seeded Amerigo Contini and Edoardo Tessaro in a best-of-three showdown. Moundir and Kijametovic dropped the first set by a 6-2 score but came back to triumph in the final two sets by a 6-4 and 10-8 count, respectively.
