MONARCH BASKETBALL SIGNS FOUR FOR 2016-17

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University head men’s basketball coach Jeff Jones announced the signing of four student-athletes (two from junior college and two from high school) to national letters of intent on Wednesday. Joining the ODU basketball family in 2016-17 will be 6-2 point guard Tre Evans (Edmond, Okla.), 6-6  guard Xavier Green (Williamsburg, Va.), 6-4 shooting guard Randy Haynes (Dumfries, Va.) and 6-9 power forward Alassane Kah (Ivory Coast, Africa).

“We are extremely pleased to have these four young men officially join the Monarch basketball family,” said Jeff Jones. “As a group, they represent talent, character and a strong drive to succeed. Each of them brings a different skill set to the table, but should have a strong impact on our program.”

TRE EVANS

“We began recruiting Tre late in the game and feel fortunate that he recognized the tremendous opportunity awaiting him at ODU. He is a coach’s son with a high basketball IQ that is athletic and can really stroke the basketball. He is especially effective in ball screen situations.”

Notes/Strengths:
- No. 5 recruit in Oklahoma
-Perimeter jump shot
-High-level IQ
-The ability to play both on and off the ball
-Averaged 12 points, three rebounds and two assists per game for the Oklahoma Wizards a season ago
-85% free throw shooter
-Son of former Oklahoma point guard, Terry Evans, who finished his OU career as the all-time leader in three-pointers (259), three-point attempts (698) and assists (651)

XAVIER GREEN

“Randy has been a winner throughout his career. As a junior college transfer, he comes in being a little older, stronger and more mature. His experience at New Mexico Junior College combined with his athleticism and versatility will make him a difficult matchup for opponents.”

-Led the Potomac High School to a 28-1 record and the state title
-Averaged a team-high 17.5 points a game for Potomac
