NORFOLK, Va. - Former Old Dominion University sailor Jake Spracher has taken a job at Apple as a watch UI automation engineer.

A native of Hampton, Va., Spracher was a four-year member of the ODU sailing squad. He was on the 2014 team that qualified for the national team race national championships.

Spracher has started a pair of new companies in the past six months. He is the co-founder of Rocket Science Web Studio, specializing in developing apps and website, and also the co-founder of OPENLY, a social networking app.

In the spring, Spracher and students from the University of Manchester won first prize for "Hottest Health Hack" at the University of Pennsylvania PennApps Hackathon, one of the largest and most prestigious programming competitions in the country.
