NORFOLK, Va. - Rice scored a pair of second half goals as Old Dominion University (4-8, 2-1) women's soccer was held to six shots Friday night as Rice defeated ODU 2-0 at the ODU Soccer Complex.
After a scoreless first half, Rice (7-5-1, 3-2) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Samantha Chaiken. Lauren Hughes sent in a free kick from 30 yards out and Suzie Meling chipped the ball in the air that Chaiken headed into the goal for her first of the season.
Just five minutes later the Owls scored again as Danielle Spriggs sent in a cross from the right side that Dominique Mazero headed in for the second and final goal of the night.
Madison Hogan led ODU with a pair of shots while goalkeeper Erin Kinz had two saves.
Rice held a slim 7-6 advantage in shots while corners were tied at two apiece.
ODU returns to action on Sunday when they host North Texas at 1 p.m. in the first ever soccer bring your Pup to the Pitch game. If you bring your dog to the game, admission is $3.
