TRINITY, Texas – Maggie Simmermacher and Charlotte De Corte of the ODU women’s golf team are set to compete in the highly prestigious Spirit International Amateur Golf Tournament, which will take place Oct. 9-15 at the Whispering Pines Golf Club adjacent to Camp Olympia in Trinity, Texas. All three rounds of the event will be broadcasted on the Golf Channel and will be re-aired at night.

The Spirit International is a world-class invitational tournament that pits the two top male and female amateur golfers from 20 countries and six continents together to compete in individual and team competitions. The Olympic-style event will commence with an opening ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 10 and will conclude with a closing ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded at the conclusion of the tournament to the top three team, individual and best ball finishers.

Sophomore Maggie Simmermacher will represent her home country of Argentina, as she is the nation’s No. 1 ranked amateur player. While representing ODU, Simmermacher earned Conference USA Freshman of the Year honors last spring and was a First Team All-C-USA selection. In the summer, she made the final cut to qualify for match play at the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur.

Lady Monarch freshman Charlotte De Corte will also compete in the Spirit International and will represent her native country of Belgium. De Corte reached the semifinals at the 2015 Ladies British Open Amateur Championship, tied for eighth place at the International European Ladies’ Amateur Championship and was a 2011 European Young Masters Finalist.

The three-day event will run from Monday, Oct. 12 until Wednesday, Oct. 14, with one round being held each day. Coincidentally, the Belgian and Argentinean female golfers will play their first round of golf simultaneously, as they are slated to start at 10:18 a.m. EST on Monday.
