Lady Monarchs Host Pair Of C-USA Foes This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (4-7-0) will return home to the ODU Soccer Complex this weekend to host a pair of C-USA foes, as the Lady Monarchs will take on Rice (6-5-1) on Friday night at 7  p.m. before squaring off against North Texas (10-2-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

This weekend, ODU will host its first annual “Pups on the Pitch” promotion for both the men’s soccer game on Saturday against New Mexico and the women’s game against North Texas on Sunday. Fans can bring their dog on a leash into the stadium, and everyone in their party will receive a discounted admission rate of $3. For more information about “Pups on the Pitch,” please click here.

The Lady Soccer Monarchs enter this weekend’s slate after two straight C-USA road victories, as ODU outlasted LA Tech 2-1 in overtime on Sept. 25 before defeating Southern Miss 1-0 on Sept. 27. The Lady Monarchs enter Friday’s matchup with a perfect 2-0 conference mark.

Leading the way for Old Dominion is freshman Iris Achterhof, who has recorded six goals on the year and one assist. Redshirt sophomore Madison Hogan has three scores on the season, while Kira Laurento, Kathryn Hill and Grace Haverly have netted one goal apiece.

ODU goalkeeper Erin Kinz has started every minute of all 11 contests and has racked up 38 saves and compiled two clean sheets.

The Rice Owls are off to a 2-2 start in Conference USA action and enter Friday night’s game after falling to Florida Atlantic 3-2 (2 OT). They are led by senior forward Lauren Hughes, who has accumulated six goals on the year and has racked up nine assists. Goalkeeper Zoe Pochobradsky has made 11 starts for the Owls and has compiled two clean sheets.

The North Texas Mean Green enter Sunday afternoon’s showdown with a 2-0-1 C-USA mark and are riding a two-game win streak after taking down FIU and Florida Atlantic last weekend. Rachel Holden has scored six goals for the Mean Green, and Karla Pineda has netted five. Goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine has made 60 saves and pitched eight shutouts in 13 starts for North Texas.

The Lady Soccer Monarchs return home to the ODU Soccer Complex on Tuesday, Oct. 13 to take on UAB in a game that was rescheduled due to last weekend’s inclement weather.
