IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion freshman Calvin Greschner was named Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week this afternoon after a 2-under 214 performance in the Firestone Invitational at the Firestone Country Club (par 72/7,125 yards) in Akron, Ohio. He finished in a tie for 12th place at the event and helped the Monarchs secure a third place finish out of the 16 participating schools.
Greschner, who comes to ODU from Benahavis, Spain, opened the tournament by shooting a career-best 67 in the first round. He tied for third of all 91 competitors in par-4 scoring (3.93/-2) and fourth in par-3 scoring (2.92/-1), and the Monarch newcomer hit 12 birdies and had 35 pars.
Prior to the Firestone Invitational, Greschner also turned in a strong performance at the Golfweek Program Challenge from Sept. 6-8 by shooting 70, 72, 70 (-4) en route to a tie for 17th place in his first collegiate event.
Greschner and the rest of the ODU men’s golf team will be back in action when the Monarchs host the ODU/Outer Banks Invitational starting Oct. 24 in Powells Point, N.C.
