NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University football hosts WKU on Saturday, Oct. 31 at noon on Fox Sports Net. The game can be seen locally on Cox channel 119 and on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN).
The Monarchs come into the game 3-4 overall and 1-2 in league play while WKU is 6-2 overall and 4-0 in C-USA.• ODU game captains this week are C.J. Bradshaw, Ray Lawry, Zach Pascal and Martez Simpson.
• Sophomore running back Ray Lawry rushed 22 times for 161 yards and a 57-yard touchdown run. It was Lawry’s longest run of the season wince he had a 53-yarder in the opener at EMU and the ninth time in his career he has rushed for more than 100 yards.
• A week after being named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week, Zach Pascal continued to show his versatility. On the first play of the second half, Pascal lined up at quarterback and ran 75 yards for a touchdown. ODU’s longest play of the year and second longest run in school history.
• TJ Ricks registered a school record 18 tackles in ODU’s win over Charlotte, also recording two tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a 28 yard return.
• Sophomores Vincent Lowe and Marques Little led the Monarchs with four catches apiece while true freshman Eri’Reon Hayes had two catches for 61 yards in his first game of the season.
• Reigning C-USA Defensive Player of the Week recorded nine tackles while fellow linebacker Martez Simpson had his best game of the year with seven tackles, a forced fumble and his first career sack.
• The Monarchs are 34-11 all-time at home, all 45 home contests have been sold out.
• The Monarchs are 46-8 all-time when scoring 30 or more points and 9-16 when scoring less than 30.
Simpson Sack
Senior linebacker Martez Simpson had a season-high seven tackles, a forced fumble and his first career sack last week at FIU. He is tied for fifth on the team with 33 tackles along with three tackles for loss.
Second Year Receivers Shine
Last season Vincent Lowe, Jonathan Duhart and Marques Little slowly adjusted to the college game. The trio combined for just 32 receptions on the year.
This season that trio already has a combined 41 receptions.
Lowe is second on the team with 15 receptions while Duhart is third in receptions and second in receiving yards while Little is fourth in receptions and third in yards.
Taking it Away
The ODU defense has forced 11 fumbles this season and recovered eight, which is eighth in the FBS. The only C-USA school with more fumbles recovered is this week’s opponent, WKU, who has nine.
