Lady Soccer Monarchs Fall to UTEP, 3-0

EL PASO, Texas –The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (7-10-0, 5-3-0) fell to UTEP (11-6-2, 4-3-2) by a 3-0 score on Sunday afternoon.

The Miners scored their first goal of the match in the fourth minute, when a Bri Barreiro shot clanked off the crossbar, only to be followed up by teammate Bri Thomas, giving UTEP an early 1-0 advantage. The goal was Thomas’ fourth of the season.

In the 21st minute, the Lady Soccer Monarchs were whistled for a foul in their own box, leading to a UTEP penalty kick, which Angela Cutaia took advantage of to stretch the Miners lead to 2-0 heading halftime.

At the half, UTEP held a 14-9 advantage in shots and a 4-1 advantage for corner kicks.

In the 73rd minute, the Miners scored their third and final goal of the match, when Angela Cutaia converted of a free kick for her team leading 12th goal of the season, ultimately lifting UTEP to a 3-0 victory on Sunday afternoon in El Paso.

For the game, UTEP fired off a total of 24 shots, while Old Dominion took 19. The Miners held a 10-4 advantage for corners for the ballgame. ODU’s Erin Kinz compiled four saves, while Alyssa Palacios made seven saves. Iris Achterhof and Madison Hogan paced the Lady Monarchs with four shots each, respectively.
