Sailing Competes at Henry Luce Trophy, Truxtun Umsted

NORFOLK, Va. -- Members of the Old Dominion sailing team raced in two separate events this weekend, as the Monarchs were present at the Henry Luce Trophy in Norfolk and the Truxtun Umsted in Annapolis, Md.

At the Henry Luce Trophy, which was hosted by ODU, the Monarch sailors captured sixth place out of the 18 participating teams. Old Dominion rotated nine different sailors en route to a fifth place finish in Division A, as they ousted Penn State in a head-to-head tiebreaker. In Division B, the Monarchs rotated eight sailors on their way to a fifth place result. In both divisions, ODU took first in one of the 11 contested races.

Old Dominion nabbed a sixth place finish overall among 19 teams at the Truxtun Umsted, which was hosted by Navy. Monarch sailors competed in four divisions, with Augie Dale, Cady Johnson and Kaylie Gallagher highlighting the weekend with a third place finish in Division B. Racing individually, Joseph David earned ninth place in Division C, while Ethan Lounsbury turned in a seventh place finish in Division D.

The Monarch sailors return to the water this weekend for several different events including the Hoyt Trophy, KP Dinghy Open, MAISA Fall Women’s and the MAISA Match Race Championships, all of which are slated to begin Saturday, Oct. 24.
