NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion field hockey team (8-5/1-1) returns home to the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Tuesday to take on BIG EAST foe Temple (3-12/0-2) in a conference showdown that was rescheduled due to inclement weather. The game will be televised by the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) through the Fox Sports Go App.
The Lady Monarchs enter the matchup after dropping back-to-back non-conference games last week, as ODU fell to No. 8 Maryland and No. 2 Connecticut. ODU fell by a close 1-0 margin in both contests. Sarah Breen, who has notched 23 points on 10 goals and three assists, leads the ODU offensive attack this season. Sophomore Danielle Grega is not far behind, as she has tallied 17 points (8g, 1a) and leads the team with two game-winning scores. Freshman Kealsie Robles has started the past 11 games in goal and holds a 7-4 overall record. She has made 33 saves and has recorded a 1.59 goals-against average.
The Owls are looking to snap an eight-game losing streak, with their most recent loss coming by just a single goal (2-3) at Drexel. Seven of Temple's 12 losses have come against teams ranked in the NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll. Alyssa Delp leads the Owls with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. Haley Mitchell has started all 15 games in goal for Temple and has posted 91 saves and a 3.03 goals-against average.
Temple is coached by Marybeth Freeman, who is a 2003 graduate of Old Dominion. While at ODU, she helped the Lady Monarchs win national titles in 1998 and 2000 and also led her team to a Colonial Athletic Association title in each year of her collegiate career. In addition to her success on the field, Freeman excelled in the classroom as she was a four-year NFHCA Academic All-American.
The Lady Monarchs will be back on the road this weekend, as the team travels to Villanova on Friday for a 4:00 p.m. contest and will face Delaware on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
