AKRON, Ohio – The Old Dominion men’s golf team secured a third place finish at the Firestone Invitational after shooting 290+289+285=864 (E) over the course of the two-day event. Monarch freshman Calvin Greschner tied for 12th place in the tournament, shooting 67+75+72=214.
Maryland clinched the team victory, shooting 284+285+287=856, and host school Akron secured the runner-up finish with a score of 290+283+285=858, while the Monarchs finished in third out of the 16 participating teams.
Individually, Maryland’s David Kocher held on to claim first place, shooting 68+68+71=207 for the tournament, while Otto Black of Toledo and Peter Webb of Valparaiso finished in a tie for second place.
ODU’s Calvin Greschner was the highest-placing Monarch golfer at the event, as the freshman tied for 12th place. Senior Seth Sweet tied for 25th, and Ashton Newsom tied for 42nd for the Monarchs.
As a team, Old Dominion had a par three average of 3.15, which was second-best of all teams. The Monarchs also had 47 birdies over the course of the tournament’s three rounds, which was sixth-highest of all 16 teams.
