WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team (1-4-0) has two matches this weekend, both against nationally ranked opponents on the road. First on Friday at 7:00 p.m., ODU will travel to cross-town rival No. 25 William and Mary (4-1-1), who enters this week in the NSCAA Top 25 for the first time since the 2012 season. On Sunday afternoon, the Lady Monarchs will travel to Charlottesville to take a stab at Virginia, who is currently the No. 1 ranked team in the country.

No. 25 William and Mary and No. 1 UVA will be the second and third nationally ranked opponents for the Lady Soccer Monarchs just eight games into the 2015 season.

Last Sunday, ODU refused to go down without a fight to No. 11 Auburn (6-0-0) but were outlasted 1-0 in a game that was televised on the SEC Network Sunday afternoon. Auburn is nationally ranked No. 9 this week.

The Lady Monarchs are led by Iris Achterhof, a freshman who has already racked up three goals in her young career including two scores in the win over Canisius. Achterhof also leads the squad in shots attempted with 14.

Madison Hogan has also placed a ball in the net for the Lady Monarchs and has also added two assists to her credit. Freshman Kira Laurento and junior transfer Kathryn Hill have also got on the board for ODU this season, each netting one goal apiece. Melanie Oakes and Grace Haverly have each delivered an assist, respectively.

Defensively, junior goalkeeper Erin Kinz has played all 90 minutes of all five games thus far for ODU, compiling a clean sheet in the win over Canisius and recording 18 saves on the year.

MEET No. 25 WILLIAM AND MARY
W&M has posted a 4-1-1 in the first three weeks of the season. Led by a strong offense and a stout defense, the Tribe has outscored its opponents 15-4 this season. Seniors Samantha Cordum and Katie Johnston lead the team with three goals apiece.

This is the first time since the 2012 preseason that William and Mary has been in the Top 25. The Green and Gold were ranked No. 20 that year.
