NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s soccer team makes its first road trip of the season this weekend, traveling to Baltimore for a matchup with Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
ODU (1-1-0) opened the season on its home turf last week, falling to then-No. 21 Coastal Carolina, 2-0, on Friday night before defeating then-No. 25 Akron, 4-1, on Sunday night. After beginning the year at No. 24, the Monarchs are now receiving votes in the latest NSCAA Coaches' Poll.
In the victory over the Zips, senior forward Josue Henriquez scored three goals and was named Conference USA’s offensive player of the week for his efforts. Freshman midfielder Niko Klosterhalfen is second on the team in scoring with one goal and one assist, while junior goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen has been strong in net for the Monarchs, totaling nine saves.
Loyola (0-1-1) has yet to score a goal through its first two matches, drawing St. Francis (Pa.), 0-0, in the season opener and losing at La Salle, 1-0.
The Greyhounds lead the all-time series 13-6-2, but ODU won the last matchup, 3-0, in 2006. The series dates all the way back to 1975.

The Monarchs return home next weekend for the 40th annual STIHL Classic. ODU takes on Jacksonville on Friday, Sept. 11, before battling Hartford on Saturday, Sept. 13. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. kickoffs.
