NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (1-6-0) will return home after a stretch of four away games to host George Mason (4-3-0) at the ODU Soccer Complex on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. Then on Sunday, Sept. 20, the Lady Soccer Monarchs will again hit the road to Greenville, N.C., where they will have a showdown with East Carolina (4-3-1) at 2:00 p.m.
In their last three matchups, the Lady Monarchs battled a trio of the nation’s top 25 teams in a row on the road, including No. 1 Virginia. ODU will be looking to snap the three-game skid on Friday night and add another digit to the win column against the former CAA foe and in-state rival Patriots of George Mason.
Offensively, the Lady Monarch scoring attack is led by freshman Iris Achterhof, who has notched three goals on the season. Madison Hogan has one goal to her credit on the season and leads the team in assists with two. Freshman Kira Laurento and transfer Kathryn Hill have each racked up one goal and one assist apiece.
In goal, junior Erin Kinz has played every minute of all seven games for the Lady Monarchs. To date, she has made 26 saves and compiled a clean sheet in the 3-0 win over Canisius.
MEET MASON
The George Mason Patriots will take the pitch Friday night coming off a 1-0 loss to Wake Forest on Sunday, Sept. 13 that was decided on a penalty kick in the 67th minute. Prior to that, George Mason recorded back-to-back home shutout victories, downing Illinois State 2-0 and Appalachian State 1-0.
Sarah Hardison paces the Patriots offensively, already having recorded five goals on the season. Against American, Hardison completed a hat trick as the Patriots disposed of the Eagles 3-0.
George Mason is coached by Todd Bramble in his first season at the helm of the Patriots. Bramble served as the head coach of Alabama for seven years and also served a seven-year stint as the coach of Clemson. In his 14 seasons, he has brought eight teams to the NCAA tournament.
MEET ECU
Winners of three-straight, the East Carolina women’s soccer team (4-3-1) will look to keep its streak alive when it hosts in-state and non-conference rival UNC Wilmington on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Johnson Soccer Stadium.
Freshman forward Courtney Cash was named American Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Week after scoring her first collegiate goal in game-winning fashion, netting the lone score in the 107th minute of the Pirates’ 1-0 double overtime victory over Western Carolina on Sept. 11.
