ODUSports.com reports daily on Old Dominion football practice and one of the features will be a Q&A with a student-athlete. Today's Q&A is with redshirt freshman defensive lineman, Brandon Tyson.
Q: Why did you choose Old Dominion?
A: I had known about the program for a while. My sister went here, so I was familiar with the campus. Once they recruited me, I fell in love with the family atmosphere. It wasn’t a hard decision.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Hampton Roads?
A: There are so many things to do in this whole area. The beach is here, and there’s always something going on.
Q: What is your major?
A: I am majoring in sport management.
Q: When did you start playing football?
A: I started playing in 2001. I was five years old at the time.
Q: What got you into football?
A: My dad played football at East Carolina in the late 1970s into the early 1980s. My brother also played football at East Carolina for a little while too, so it has always been in my family.
Q: What sports did you play growing up?
A: I played basketball. I love basketball.
Q: Who is your role model?
A: I would have to say my parents. They lead by example. They show how you should raise a family, and they raised my siblings and I really well.
Q: Favorite food?
A: I would have to say hamburgers.
Q: Favorite movie?
A: Right now my favorite movie is Straight Outta Compton.
Q: Favorite music artist?
A: My favorite music artist is a rap group. I like the 1998 Hot Boys. The Cash Money Hot Boys.
Q: What’s on your iPod?
A: I have hip hop, R&B, gospel and country. I even have some rock on there. I have a mix of everything.
Q: Favorite NFL team?
A: My favorite NFL team is the Washington Redskins.
Q: What would your superpower be and why?
A: I would like to have super strength for my superpower.
Q: Hidden talents?
A: I play the drums at my church.
Q: What is something people don’t know about you?
A: I have been raised in the church, I guess. That is something people may not know.
Q: Favorite athlete?
A: My favorite athlete is Ray Lewis.
Q: One place you want to travel to?
A: I would go to Africa to see my roots.
Q: Favorite part of gameday?
A: The best part of gameday is the atmosphere. We have the best fans in the world. They support us 100 percent. It’s an amazing feeling, and I can’t wait to run out of the tunnel for the first time on September 12 against Norfolk State.
Q: Famous person you hope to meet?
A: I would hope to meet Jesus Christ.
Q: Pregame rituals?
A: I pray as soon as I run out on the field before every game.
