NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s soccer head coach Angie Hind has announced the hiring of PJ Donnelly as the team’s volunteer goalkeepers coach.

“I am delighted to have PJ on staff here,” Hind stated. “Having worked with him previously, I am very well aware of the passion, knowledge and commitment he will bring to our goalkeeping position. He has both the playing background and coaching experience essential for working with elite athletes, and he also possesses a very unique way of coaching this very specialized position. I have seen him develop many talented keepers, bringing them to national level caliber. He will be a fantastic addition to our staff, and I am excited to welcome him to ODU.”

Donnelly, who hails from Scotland, has an extensive list of coaching accolades. Serving as the goalkeeping and assistant coach for the Rangers Ladies Football Club during the 2014-15 season, he helped lead the program to its highest ever finish, second place, in the 2014 Scottish Women’s Premier League. In doing so, Donnelly specifically coached Scotland international level goalkeepers Khym Ramsay and Claire Johnstone.

Before his stint with the Rangers, Donnelly helped form and eventually coached the Motherwell Ladies Football Club and led the Scotland Cerebral Palsy and Acquired Brain Injury Program National Team to a bronze medal at the CPISRA Home Nations Tournament in 2013.

As a player, Donnelly represented three different football clubs from 2007 to 2011 including Elgin City, Ross County, and Airdrie United.

Donnelly is a graduate of University of the West of Scotland, where he graduated with distinction with a bachelor of science in sports coaching.
