NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team will host its one and only exhibition match of the 2015 season against Towson on Friday, Aug. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.
Second year ODU head coach Angie Hind compiled a 4-9-5 overall record and a 3-4-4 mark in Conference USA in 2014. A total of 14 of ODU’s 18 matches last year were decided by one goal or less. Hind returns 14 letterwinners from last year’s roster, while adding 10 newcomers, nine of whom are freshmen.
Old Dominion returns four of its top five leading scorers from last season: Madison Hogan, Melanie Oakes, Grace Haverly and Devin Dougherty. Hogan was selected to the C-USA All Freshman Team in 2014. Sophomore Natalie Johnson will also return to the pitch for the Lady Monarchs after earning Third-Team All Conference USA recognition during her freshman campaign.
The Lady Monarchs were selected to finish ninth out of 14 teams in the 2015 preseason poll. The top eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season will earn a spot in the 2015 Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship, hosted by FIU Nov. 4-8.
Towson, which made the CAA Tournament for the first time in program history last season, was predicted to finish in eighth place in the 2015 CAA Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll.
ODU opens up the regular season at VCU on Aug. 21, before the home opener against Canisius on Aug. 23.
