NORFOLK, Va. – Former Old Dominion University women’s basketball player Chelisa Painter (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) signed her first professional basketball contract on Monday and will play with the DCU Mercy in the Ireland Premier League (IPL) in Dublin for the upcoming season.  

“I really enjoyed my time at Old Dominion,” noted Painter. “I have a lot of people in my corner there and I am looking forward to see where basketball will take me. I am excited to meet new people and learn about new cultures. Thank you to all my family, friends, fans, Coach Barefoot and the entire ODU staff.”

Painter appeared in 33 games, starting 29 during the 2014-15 season, while averaging 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds. She scored in double figures on 10 different occasions and hauled down four or more rebounds in 20 contests. Against Rice on 2/26/15, Painter set career highs for: points (25), assists (six) and steals (4), while she grabbed a career high of 12 rebounds against WKU in the C-USA Tournament. For the season, Painter tallied 247 points, 148 rebounds, 32 steals, 22 assists and five blocks.
