Rutherford Named Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American

TUCSON, AZ- - Old Dominion University freshman shortstop Zach Rutherford (Chesapeake, VA.) has been named to the Louisville Slugger’s Freshmen All-American Squad as released today by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. He becomes the 16th Baseball Monarch freshman to be selected since 1985.

Rutherford was third on the Monarchs in hitting at .317 where he started 42 of 43 games, mostly at shortstop.  Rutherford hit .355 in 27 C-USA games which was best on the team. He had 13 multiple-hit games and knocked in a career high four RBI in a game against nationally ranked Florida Atlantic.  Rutherford committed only five errors and was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman squad.

The 2015 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team, is headed by Collegiate Baseball's Freshman Pitcher of The Year RHP Alex Lange of LSU and Freshmen Players of The Year Brendan McKay of Louisville and JJ Schwarz of Florida.
