Kevin Beazley to Compete for Greco-Roman World Team Spot

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion wrestler Kevin Beazley will take to the stage on Thursday to contend for a chance to represent the United States at the World Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. this September.

This year’s Greco-Roman World Team Trials feature a best-of-three wrestle-off to determine the World Team member in each weight category, with the U.S. Open finals constituting the first match in the best-of-three series.

In his first Senior U.S. Open competition, Beazley made it to the finals after defeating West Cathcart (9-0 TF), James Souza (8-0 TF) and John Wechter (Fall 0:57). He fell to two-time World Team member Caylor Williams (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) in the first round of the series, but only after three weeks of Greco training. Now with over a month of Greco style training, the ODU sophomore will battle Williams again on Thursday at the Friedman Wrestling Center on the campus of Cornell University.

Should Beazley win the second round bout, the series will be tied at 1-1 and the two will wrestle again in round three after all the bouts have been completed that day to determine who wins a spot on the world team.

Action at the Greco-Roman World Team Trials will begin at 8 p.m. (EDT) and will be broadcast live on Flowrestling.com. The event will also be aired on Universal Sports Network at 7 p.m. (EDT) on June 12. Fans interested in attending this event can purchase tickets from the Cornell Athletics Ticket Office or at the event gate. Tickets are $20 for reserved seats and $10 for general admission.
