NORFOLK, Va. – Over the next few weeks ODUSports will introduce the women’s soccer incoming class of 2015 with a weekly profile, this week’s newest addition is five-foot nine-inch center forward, Iris Achterhof of Groningen, Netherlands.
“I am very excited to have Iris join our program,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “As we look to develop this program towards future successes, we must look to find athletes who possess the quality and ambition to help take us there. Iris has a strong playing background, having represented both her national teams at the youth level but also at the senior level with her club.”
Achterhof attended CSG Augustinus High School, while playing for SC Heerenveen, which is a Dutch soccer club currently playing in the top level of football in the Netherlands. She also played for her national team each of the past three years (U15, U16 and U17).
“I chose Old Dominion because I mainly had a very good feeling when I visited campus,” exclaimed Achterhof. “I loved my visit, everyone was very welcoming and the positive atmosphere was great. I also chose ODU because the team is in a positive development stage, so I think I can develop myself well here, while helping the team make some steps forward.”
“As a striker she has great presence, awareness and the ability to both create chances and score herself,” Hind concluded. “I am impressed by her ambition to develop personally but also to be part of making a positive impact on this team. I am delighted to welcome her as part of our Monarch family.”
