NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University swimming and diving teamed up with Special Olympics Virginia to host a swim meet Sunday afternoon at the J.C. Scrap Chandler pool.

More than 80 swimmers between the ages of 10 and 50 compete in various events.

“It is an honor to support the Special Olympics of Hampton Roads,” ODU Head Swimming and Diving Coach Carol Withus said.  “Through our volunteer work with this amazing group of athletes our swimmers have learned so much about hard work, persistence, and the meaning of dedication.  We look forward to building on our partnership with them and many more great seasons to come.”

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
