NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University women’s basketball coach Karen Barefoot announced today that redshirt junior point guard Ashley Betz-White has accepted an offer with Janssen Pharmaceutical Company as a sales representative and will not return to the University for her senior season.

Betz-White will graduate from the University on May 8 with a degree in communications and minor in marketing. The 5-4 point guard and Harrisburg, PA native has been a Dean’s List recipient three times in her college career, while never making below a 3.0 in any given semester.

Ashley sat out the 2013-14 season due to stress fractures in both her right and left lower legs.  She returned this year to start in 33 games for the Lady Monarchs leading the team in assists with 91 and steals with 51, while averaging 6.6 points per game and 2.3 rebounds. She also netted 218 points and hauled down 75 rebounds.

“I want to thank all the coaches, my teammates, fans, and the ODU community for their continued support throughout my career,” said Betz-White. “Due to my previous injuries, I felt my health would not allow me to complete my fifth year to my full potential. I’m excited to graduate in May and now start my career. This opportunity has been a blessing and I am looking forward to what the future has in store for me.”

Betz-White’s 72.6% (45-62) from the free-throw line led the team, while she hit the third most three-pointers on the squad with 29. She played a total of 898 minutes this season, for an average of 27.2 minutes per contest, which was third on the team. Betz-White scored 16 points on four different occasions this season, while pouring in double-figures 10 times.

“Ashley has left an important imprint on the growth of this program, on the court, off the court and in this community. I couldn't be more proud of her and wish her continued success in her career,” says Barefoot.

Betz-White went on to say, “Playing for Coach Barefoot was an honor. Her endless passion and energy for the game have helped me grow in so many ways. I am confident that this great institution has academically challenged me and given me the skills I need to succeed moving forward.”

Betz-White was named CAA Rookie of the Year for the 2011-12 season after leading all CAA freshmen in points per game (8.1), assists per game (3.4) and minutes per game (31.3).
