NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University will host several events this weekend in conjunction with the annual spring game on Saturday, April 11, including the second annual Big Blue 5K and the 47th annual Charity Bowl.
The day will begin with the Big Blue 1K kids run at 10 a.m. and followed by the 5K at 10:30 a.m. The runners will finish in Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium with a post-race party, taking place in the Silver Lot adjacent to the football stadium. Click here for more information for the race.
From 12-2 p.m., former ODU quarterback, Taylor Heinicke, will sign autographs in the Silver Lot at the ODU Bookstore tent. The autograph is free with a purchase of an item at the ODU Bookstore ($5 minimum) or $5 if you bring your own item. There will also be photographs available also for $5.
The 47th annual Charity Bowl will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the stadium, featuring many former football greats from the Hampton Roads area. Past participants have included NFL greats such as Bruce Smith, Ed Beard, Walker Gillette, William Fuller, Bob Windsor and the event annually raises over $100,000 for youth charities in Hampton Roads. There will be a meet and greet with this year’s legends following the game. A recap of the Charity Bowl will run on Saturday night from 10:30-11:30 on WGTN channel 27, on Saturday night from 11:35-12:35 p.m. on WTKR channel 3 and on Sunday night from 10:30-11:30 p.m. on WGNT channel 27.
To finalize the day’s events, the football Monarchs will complete spring practice season with their annual scrimmage at 3 p.m. The “Voice of the Monarchs”, Ted Alexander, will broadcast live from the field and on ESPN 94.1 FM. Following the game there will be an autograph session and meet and greet with players and coaches.
