NORFOLK, Va. - Over the next few weeks ODUSports will introduce the women’s soccer incoming class of 2015 with a weekly profile, this week’s newest addition is five-foot five-inch midfielder Sinead Tierney from Cheshire, England.
“Sinead is a very technical player who has great vision and composure, as well as someone who we believe will add real creativity to our team,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “She is a midfielder who will bring different qualities to our squad and given our style of play I think she will fit in very well and help strengthen our team’s ability to create more in attack.”
Tierney played club ball for the Stoke City Ladies Football Club (L.F.C), which is affiliated with Stoke City F.C. She scored on her home debut with the club and was the county level captain for U16’s. Sinead went to St. Nicholas Catholic High School. In 2011, she attended England Soccer Camp and garnered the Players Award.
Hind continued, “Being from England, she is a huge soccer fan and therefore brings a strong playing background and also a good understanding of the game. Being able to add talented international players helps create a stronger soccer culture and I have no doubt that Sinead will bring much to our program. We are very excited to have her be part of ODU women’s soccer.”
Sinead Tierney concluded, “I loved my visit to Old Dominion University. Everyone was so welcoming and it was just a great atmosphere. I wanted to start right away, so I’m really looking forward to experiencing a whole new culture and lifestyle.”
