ODU Rowing Closes Out Regular Season in Orlando, Florida

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion rowing team is back in action this weekend, as they head to Orlando, Florida to take on Central Florida and Miami.The event will take place on Lake Pickett and will begin around 9:00 a.m.

ODU will send six boats to Orlando, three Varsity 8 boats and three Varsity 4 boats. The Second Varsity 4 will take off first at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Third Varsity 8 at 9:15 a.m., the Varsity 4 at 9:30 a.m. and the Second Varsity 8 at 9:455 a.m. The Third Varsity 4 will race at 10:00 a.m. and the Varsity 8 will close out the day at 10:15 a.m. Fans can follow the action live here!

The Monarchs enter the matchup coming off a successful weekend at the Knecht Cup. ODU had all five boats that competed on day one advance to the semifinals of their respective divisions. On the final day, the Freshman 8 started competition and qualified for the Petite Final. The Varsity 4 advanced to the Grand Final, placing fifth, while the Second Varsity 4 “A” and “B” boats placed second and third, respectively, in the Petite Final. The Second Varsity 8 rounded out the day for ODU, advancing to the Third Level Final and to place fourth overall.

Old Dominion will take a two-week break before the Monarchs head to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for the Big 12 Championships on May 16-17 on Melton Hill Lake. The Monarchs, along with the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Tennessee Volunteers will join Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia in the 2015 event as affiliate members competing for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Rowing Championship.
