NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team held an alumni event this past weekend, in which over 55 alum and parents attended in support of the program. The day started with a few people speaking over brunch at the scholarship lounge at Foreman Field, before the group played some soccer at the ODU Soccer Complex.

“This was a fantastic day and a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate ODU women’s soccer,” explained ODU head coach Angie Hind. “It was great to have some of our alumni back for the day and allow for our current student-athletes to meet and share experiences with them. To be able to have some of our parents here to support the event also exemplifies the real sense of togetherness we share within our program. I hope this is just the first of many events and initiatives that we can organize in the hopes of growing our program not only on the field but also around it. I want to thank everyone for coming along and making the day so enjoyable for all.”

Saturday’s event started at 11:00 a.m. with some breakfast, before Devin Dougherty, one of the captains for 2015, spoke to the group about: her experiences to date at ODU, what the program has meant to her and what she hopes the team can achieve moving forward.

Coach Hind then gave a brief overview of the future plans and vision for the program, both on and off the field.

Erica Campbell (class of ‘04) then spoke to the group about the role ODU women’s soccer has played in her career since graduating. Campbell’s speech was followed with some fun and games. A raffle and some Irish bingo left the alumni and parents happy with the many prizes awarded.

After the fun and games, the group headed to the ODU Soccer Complex to play a little scrimmage, which was a fun environment that experienced some great goals.

The weekend was capped off on Sunday by a nice 3-2 win over cross-town rival, William and Mary, in what was Old Dominion’s fifth and final spring game. The Lady Soccer Monarchs went undefeated in the spring, compiling a 3-0-2 record.
