NORFOLK, VA-- Old Dominion University men’s golf coach Murray Rudisill announced the signing of Calvin Greschner (Benahavis, Spain) , the 2014 Spanish National Champion – under 25 and Nicholas Rencis (Long Valley, NJ.), the New Jersey Junior Player of the Year to National Letters of Intent for the 2015-16 school year.
"We are very excited to have two outstanding new freshmen coming to ODU in the fall,” said Rudisill. “Calvin Greschner is the second player to come to us recently from Spain. He is one of the highest ranked junior golfers in the country and has played well in many national events. Nick Rencis is another fine golfer from New Jersey. He is a "lefty" and we are counting on him following in the footsteps of former ODU left handed great players, Geoff Harris and Eric Onesi.”
Nicholas Rencis, the 2013 New Jersey Junior Player of the Year shot 67-74-75 at the 2014 New Jersey Golf Association State Open. He qualified for the 2014 New Jersey Junior match Play and had two top 20 finishes at the AJGA events in 2014. Rencis won the Metedecock Prep School Challenge, and the Hurricane JGT tournaments.
“I chose ODU because of the great atmosphere at the school and around campus and the knowledge that coach Rudisill has about the game,” said Rencis who plans to major in either accounting or finance at ODU. He is the son of Michele and Michael Rencis.
Calvin Greschner won the 2014 Spanish national Chamionship under 25 event, representing Andalucia. He took second in the 2014 Ping Trophy and won the 2014 Reale Seguros Open.
“I chose ODU because I was impressed with what the golf program has to offer. I also sensed a positive connection with coach Rudisill more than with any other coach I was in contact with. Baring in mind I have grown up in Spain, the similar weather conditions allowing me to play and practice all year round was also a key factor,” said Greschner who plans to major in sports business at ODU. He is the son of Heidi Fernandes and Horst Greschner.
