WILLIAMSBURG, VA- Ryan Hall’s double in the eighth inning broke a 9-9 tie to lead William and Mary (15-17) to an 11-9 victory over Old Dominion (17-18) Tuesday evening at Plumeri Park.
Jason McMurray led ODU with two hits and three runs driven in, while freshman Zach Rutherford had three hits on the night with two RBI. Taylor Ostrich, Josh Eldridge, Justin Hayes and Nick Walker knocked in one run each.
Freshman Zach Rutherford put the Monarchs on the board with a two-out RBI which plated C-USA Player of the Week PJ Higgins. Rutherford singled home the go-ahead run, plating McMurray
In the four-run fourth, McMurray tripled home Connnor Myers, Kurt Sinnen and Justin Hayes to tie the game at 5-5 in the fourth. Hayes walked with the bases loaded to plate Eldridge and give the Monarchs a 6-5 lead.
Trailing 9-8 in the top of the eighth, ODU rallied with a an RBI single by Nick Walker which plated Justin Hayes.
Charlie Gould and Devin White led the Tribe with four hits each along with two RBI each. The Tribe finished the night with 17 hits. Reliever Joseph Gaouette picked up the save, his second, fanning the side in the ninth.
The Monarchs host East Carolina Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
