NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore goalkeeper Maggi Buckley of the Old Dominion lacrosse team was recently named the Atlantic-Sun Defensive Player of the Week. She was selected for the honor from a pool of nominees for her performance during the week of April 5-11.
Buckley helped lead the team to a 17-5 victory over Furman in an Atlantic-Sun matchup in Greenville, S.C. The win marked the Monarchs fourth straight and clinched a spot for ODU in the upcoming A-Sun Tournament. She allowed just five goals in her 51 minutes of action, while stopping 10 shots on goal.
She currently leads the conference in save percentage (51.6) and goals-against average (7.61) and ranks second in goals against (45). She also ranks ninth in the conference in saves (48), while ranking first among goalies that have played in 10 or less games.
Senior midfielder, Christina Rea, was also named an additional nominee for the Player of the Week award. She led the Monarchs’ offense against Furman with five goals and one assist, while recording an 83.3 shooting percentage.
Old Dominion is set to host Detroit Mercy on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex for its last home game of the season.
