NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University hosted the annual Aaron Szambecki Team Race Saturday and Sunday on the Elizabeth River and earned a fifth place finish.
The Monarchs finished with a 7-16 team race record with skippers Joe David, Esteban Forrer, Daniel Lochner and Augie Dale while the crew were Jason Bankert, Carter Little, Grace Mason, Gabriel Smith and Colin Voigt.
In the first round of racing ODU defeated Navy and Vermont and in the second round knocked off Fordham and Georgetown. In round three ODU beat Dartmouth, Navy and Fordham.
In the team race at Hampton University, ODU rounded out the event in third place with an 8-5 team race record.
The team of Ethan Lounsbury, Lee Dumaliang, Jeremy Herrin, Katelyn Talley, Cady Johnson and Kaylie Gallagher went 5-2 in the first round and 3-3 in the second round for eight wins.
In the final races of the weekend, ODU finished fifth at Christopher Newport. The Division A team of Alex Chicoine and Jocelyn Rovniak had 11 top-five finishes en route to a fourth place finish while the Division B team of Brendon Wilkins and Molly Sternberg had a pair of top-five finishes.
