NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion rowing team is back in action this weekend for the 42nd annual San Diego Crew Classic, Saturday and Sunday, March 28-29.
The San Diego Crew Classic is a nationally acclaimed regatta, which started in 1973 and consists of racing for two days with more than 4,000 athletes for over 125 schools and clubs. The regatta provides over 100 races and is considered one of the largest regattas in the world.
The Classic is held on Crown Point Shores in Mission Bay, which is just 6.5 miles from the San Diego International Airport. Racing begins at 7:30 a.m. each day, ending at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Old Dominion will send three boats to compete in the Classic. ODU begins Saturday with racing their Varsity 8 in the Women’s Collegiate Cal Cup, taking off at 7:44 a.m. The Varsity 4 will also compete in the Women’s Collegiate Varsity 4+ Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup, with the start time at 9:12 a.m.
The Second Varsity 8 will close out the day for the Monarchs in the Women’s Collegiate 2V Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy race and will take off at 9:52 a.m.
