NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s lacrosse team will take to the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Friday for their first Atlantic-Sun Conference contest of the season. The Monarchs will host the Dolphins of Jacksonville on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Hatters of Stetson on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
Old Dominion has faced Jacksonville two times since the first meeting in 2013, falling in both contests to the Dolphins. In the only meeting with Stetson in program history in 2014, the Monarchs came out on top by a 15-11 margin.
ODU will enter the matchup on Friday with a 7-3 overall record after earning a 7-6 victory over the American Eagles. Jessica Liberty once again paced the offense with four goals, including the game winner with less than two minutes to go. Captains Morgan Gallagher and Karen Hayde led the defense that allowed just six goals. Gallagher posted three caused turnovers and four ground balls, while Hayde stopped a season-high 15 shots while in goal for the Monarchs. For her efforts, Gallagher was named the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week.
Overall, the Monarchs are led by Ashmore Standing, who leads the team with 39 total points on 27 goals and 12 assists, while ranking second on the team with 17 caused turnovers. Liberty is not far behind Standing with 33 points on 25 goals and eight assists. Carson chips in 29 points offensively, but leads the team with 19 caused turnovers and 28 draw controls. Hayde has played the majority of time in goal for ODU and has stopped 75 shots on the year. She has posted a 10.70 goal-against average and a 46.6 save percentage, which are both good for third in the league.
Jacksonville is 8-2 on the season and is coming off a big 22-7 win over Presbyterian on Sunday. Danielle Dellarocca leads the offense with 44 total points on 29 goals and 15 assists. She currently leads the league in all three categories. Sam Bauer paces the defense with 16 caused turnovers and 19 ground balls to go along with her 19 draw controls. Erika Brager chips in with 10 caused turnovers, however, she leads the team with 34 ground balls. Asia Moore has played the most in goal for the Dolphins, posting a 9.33 goals-against average and stopping 54 shots for a 40.9 save percentage.
Stetson is 2-7 on the season and just came off a 13-5 loss to St. Joseph’s on Saturday. Hallie Merz leads the offense with 22 points on 10 goals and 12 assists, while Rachel Valocchi chips in with 14 points (8g, 6a). Meghan Moran leads the team with six caused turnovers and has scooped up 13 ground balls. Whitney Meyers has played the majority of time in goal for the Hatters and has recorded a 10.91 goals-against average and has made 72 saves.
The Monarchs are back in action on April 2 when they travel to Mercer for for a 4:00 p.m. contest. ODU will return to the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Saturday, April 18 for a conference matchup with Detroit Mercy at 1:00 p.m.
