NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team played VCU to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, March 22, at the ODU Soccer Complex in what was ODU’s first of five spring games.

"I am pleased with how we performed today in general,” explained head coach Angie Hind. “We were very competitive and worked very hard to put pressure on them and this helped us create some good chances on goal. This was a really good start to our spring season."

The Lady Monarchs played well throughout and dominated long spells of the game, while outshooting the Rams 14-4 and 5-1 on corners.

Jackie Stroud scored 15 minutes in the match off a corner, which was initially deflected, but Stroud stuck the rebound into the back of the net. VCU equalized 8 minutes before the half with a deflected shot to beat ODU goalkeeper Erin Kinz.

Sam Frowen protected the net in the second half and had very little to do as Old Dominion pushed hard for long spells. Grace Haverly, Kathryn Hill, and Madison Hogan had a few good goal scoring opportunities but some quality VCU goalkeeping kept the game all tied.
