NORFOLK, Va. - Jessica Liberty scored four goals including the game-winner with 1:50 left in the game and Karen Hayde made 15 saves as Old Dominion University lacrosse defeated American 7-6 Saturday afternoon.
American's Olivia Mangan scored back-to-back goals as the Eagles scored three-straigh to the score at six with just four minutes left in the game. The Monarchs won the ensuing draw control and Liberty received the ball at the top of the circle and drove right and fired a shot past the goalie to give ODU the 7-6 lead, which they would hold onto.
The Eagles scored the first two goals of the game before ODU fired back with three-straight goals as Liberty, Connor Carson and Morgan Marrale got the Monarchs on the board and a 3-2 lead.
AU scored with eight minutes left in the first half on a Jamie Silverman goal for a 3-3 halftime score.
ODU stormed out of halftime as Liberty scored two-straight goals followed by Ashmore Standing's first of the game at the 16 minute mark to give ODU a 6-3 lead.
Liberty led ODU with four goals while Standing had a goal and an assist. Jess Wojciechowski had two goals and an assist for American.
ODU is back in action on Friday, March 27 at 7 p.m. as they host Jacksonville.
