NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s lacrosse returns to the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Saturday, as they host American University for a 1:00 p.m. contest. The game against the Eagles is the Monarchs’ annual Cystic Fibrosis awareness game.
Old Dominion has faced American 23 times since the first meeting in 1992. The Monarchs have dominated the series, holding a 19-4 lead over the Eagles.
ODU will enter the matchup with a 6-3 overall record after falling to in-state rival William & Mary on Sunday. Connor Carson and Christina Rea paced the offense with two goals apiece, while Cydney Tutchton led the defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Karen Hayde and Maggi Buckley split time in goal for the Monarchs, combining for nine saves.
Overall, the Monarchs are led by Ashmore Standing still leads the team with 37 total points on 26 goals and 11 assists, while ranking second on the team with 16 caused turnovers. Carson chips in 19 points offensively, but leads the team with 10 caused turnovers, 20 ground balls and 26 draw controls.
American is 2-6 on the year and is coming off an 11-5 loss to Navy on Wednesday. Jessica Wojciechowski leads the Eagles’ offense with 22 points on 21 goals and one assist. Madison Hoon and Olivia Mangan are not far behind, as they have posted 19 and 18 points, respectively. Hoon is also first on the team with nine caused turnovers. Rose Redfoot has played the majority of time in goal for the Eagles and has recorded a 10.83 goals-against average and 76 saves.
The Monarchs will return to the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Friday, March 27 for their first conference matchup of the season. ODU will take on the Jacksonville Dolphins at 7:00 p.m.
